Tapestry Work

Tapestry is an art form of weaving pictures on a ground warp.  Yarns or materials meet, cross, or twist around each other in sections rather than run across the full width of the warp.  Sometimes textures are added.  Pictures may be free-form, abstract, or start from a sketch, a particular view, landscape, allegory, or still life.

Woven Tapestry captures the grounding energy of the landscape with a lighthouse standing at point guides ships to safe harbor, while fair winds and calm seas carry the sails of a day sailor home.  Elements of earth, wind, and air together. Made with upcycled woven sheeting and denim fabrics and cord on a recycled picture frame.

This Autumn Leaf Woven Tapestry reflects on the seasonal elements with color and texture, capturing the strength of the earth balanced with the fragility of the ebbing cycle of life through browns and warm copper orange with hints of gold using recycled secondhand yarns on an upcycled picture frame.
